How to Know When to Stop Advertising a Roblox Game

Ads should amplify a funnel that works. When it does not, stop and diagnose.

There is no universal cost or retention number that tells you when to stop. A free-to-play game with high lifetime spend can afford costs that would sink a low-monetisation game. The right approach is to know your own economics and watch whether spend is amplifying something healthy or just buying visits.

Know what a player is worth to you

Before judging spend, estimate what a player brings back. That depends on your monetisation, session pattern and how long players stay. A rough view is enough to start, and it improves with data. If you cannot estimate it, you do not yet know whether your acquisition cost is acceptable.

Four questions to ask regularly

Acquisition cost
Is cost per qualified play stable, rising or falling, and how does it compare to what those players are worth?
Retention after paid acquisition
Do paid players return at a rate you can build on? Compare with organic players.
Session quality
Do they play long enough and do the things you want, such as completing the first loop?
Monetisation
Do paid cohorts spend, and does it cover their cost over a realistic period?

Healthy amplification versus buying visits

SignAmplifying a healthy funnelBuying visits
Paid retentionIn line with organicFar below organic
Early funnelMost reach the first rewardMost leave before it
Concurrent count after pausingSettles above where it startedDrops back to the old level
PaybackTrends toward covering costNever closes the gap

A pause is itself a test. If you stop and nothing remains of the traffic you bought, the spend did not build an audience.

When to stop and diagnose

  1. Cost is rising and quality is not improving.
  2. Paid cohorts retain far worse than organic ones.
  3. The early funnel shows a large drop you have not addressed.
  4. You are scaling to cover a decline in organic players.
  5. You cannot explain why a result changed.

Process for pausing

  1. Reduce spend to a small controlled amount instead of switching everything off, if that keeps your data readable.
  2. Find the weakest funnel step with the first-session data.
  3. Make one change aimed at that step.
  4. Wait long enough for a meaningful sample.
  5. Resume at a modest budget and check that the post-click numbers improved before raising it.

Benchmarks are yours

Write down thresholds for your own game: what cost and retention you need for spend to make sense. Update them when your game or monetisation changes. Numbers from other games are context, not rules.
